A Special Course for Depressed Students

Laurie Santos created the most popular course at Yale University with the aim to find a way to make people, especially her students, happy. She thought that college students are much more overwhelmed, much more stressed, much more anxious, and much more depressed than they’ve ever been.

According to a recent survey by the American College Health Association, 52 percent of students reported feeling hopeless, while 39 percent suffered from such severe depression that they had found it difficult to function at some point during the previous year.

The course teaches practical advice on how to be happy, such as how to choose a career that you’ll love, as well as how to separate satisfying pursuits from hollow ones. Yale has now made the course available for free, however, people who want to get a certificate of completion should pay some amount of money.

The course is called “The Science of Well-being” taught by Professor Laurie Santos, which overviews what psychological science says about happiness. The purpose of the course is not only to learn what psychological research says about what makes us happy but also to put those strategies into practice. The first half of the course reveals misconceptions we have about happiness and the annoying features of mind that lead us to think the way we do. The second half of the course focuses on activities that have been proven to increase happiness along with strategies to build better habits.

Life is full of adventures and challenges and every person needs to find a key leading to happiness. Happiness is within us and we are sure that you are on the right way and one day you will find your way of being happy. Remember that everything is a gift of the universe – joy, anger, happiness, frustration, anxiety and sadness, because all of them teach you how to improve yourself and how to become the person you dream to be.
